Cast on 5.5 mm circ needles

Cast on 80 stitches (mulitples of 4) not too tight, join. 

Knit 8 rows of rib. 2 knit, 2 purl.

Change to 6.5mm circ needles.

with multiples of 10 for ease of pattern, 80 stitches

To fit my daughters heads 54 to 55cm, with hair up, and fits me snuggly, hair down, 56cm.

Pattern:

Cast on 5.5 mm circ needles

Cast on 68 stitches (mulitples of 4) not too tight, join. 

Knit 8 rows of rib. 2 knit, 2 purl.

Change to 6.5mm circ needles.

Increase 2 stitches only to achieve multiples of 10 for ease of pattern, 70 stitches

Striped beanie with ribs

Most 8ply yarns have a similar knitting tension

I used 4.50mm circlular needles. I have also carried the colour up the back on the inside. If you choose to change lots of colours or just use a single colour it would be reversible.  😉

Cast on 96 stitches join in the round. This size fits a loosely a 52 to 56cm round head. Teenage to small adult in general. Will stretch.
rib k1 p1 in the round for around 2 inches

change colour if you wish
7 rounds of knit
2 rounds of purl in the ribbed colour
7 rounds of knit
2 rounds of purl
repeat the 7 rounds of knit, 2 rounds of purl until 3 more ribbed rows (purls) or about 7 inches

Decreases

Round 1: *K10, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (88 sts)
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *K9, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (80 sts)
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: *K8, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (72 sts)
Round 6: Knit.
Round 7: *K7, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (64 sts)

Change colour
Round 8: Purl
Round 9: *P6, P2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (56 sts)
Round 10: Purl

Change colour
Round 11: *K5, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (48 sts)
Round 12: Knit.
Round 13: *K4, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round. (40 sts)
Round 14: Knit.

Change colour.

Knitted plain as anything scarf with fringe

Cast on 20 stitches Bulky yarn 8.00mm needles. Knit knit knit until it measures 56 inches or to your desired length. Add 12inch lengths for a fringe.  You can't go wrong.

These scarves used around 2 and bit 50g balls. Panda acrylic Carnival Fluffy, 12 ply.

Baby gifts

So many gorgeous do it yourself projects on the Internet. I thought I'd share a few I have made recently for all the little people I know. Baby gifts for our growing families...

Infinity Scarf Super Chunky

I love a quick knit and so much more when it is a chunky yarn. A quick and easy project you can finish in a night.

I bought this yarn last year, named super bulky, suggested needles were 10mm. I tried them, but the scarf was going to be sooo stiff, as to be unwearable. A softer drape in order, I decided upon my chunky 15.00mm needles.

I cast on a few stitches and set about in garter stitch, for all the patterns out there I so love a basic garter, so simple and stunningly textural. No thinking involved just knit...

Two and a half balls of my chunky pink pepper coloured yarn and two cuppas later, Here we have it. FINISHED.

Chunky Yarn two balls and a half about 130m.

15 mm needles  Cast on 20 stitches AND knit. knit knit. Then join when you have tried it on a few times to your liking.

A normal standard length Infinity scarf is suggested 60 inches - a whopping 1.5metres. I just knitted up the two balls that I had and added another HALF.

A short scarf is about 55 inches long
A medium scarf is about 70 inches
A long scarf is aprrox. 82 inches.
Widths of scarves vary also : Men's scarves are normaly 6 inches wide, while women's scarves vary from 5 to 10 inches wide.

Mine vary all over the place. Depending on the yarn. Its all about what you want to do with it...

The Pompom Cupcake Beanie 2

I've knitted another gorgeous Cupcake Beanie with an enormous pompom. Don't you love it. I do. They take forever to knit (in my case) and it is such a lovely and relaxing craft.

The largest pompom I could make, looking hugely enormous from the top. Don't you love it?

Cupcake beanie

The yarn  A purple Sirdar snuggly kisses delicate stripe effect DK. 

The tension 22st 28 rows with 4 mm needles. With a pink Sirdar snuggly double knitting yarn of different stripe effect and same label tension.

The Pattern

I've used 4.5mm needles with the 2 yarns mentioned above:

Cast on 35

Row  1. Knit row
Row  2. Purl 2 tog, purl to last stitch, purl into front and knit into front of same stitch, (or increase as you desire)Row  3. KnitRow  4. Purl 2 tog, purl to last stitch, purl into front and knit into front of same stitchRow  5. KnitRow  6. Purl 2 tog, purl to last stitch, purl into front and knit into front of same stitch.

Change colourRow  7. PurlRow  8. Knit 2 tog knit to last stitch, knit into front and knit into back of same stitchRow  9.Purl
Row 10. Knit 2 tog knit to last stitch, knit into front and knit into back of same stitch.

Change colour
Continue in pattern changing colour every 6 rows or 4 rows for 7 more times per colour change or until it measures around 36 cm or so. End on a row 10. Sew up diagonals together. You dont have to be perfect here, as long it goes around your babe's head. (I don't have a babe anymore so it was a bit of a guess for me, sadly they have all grown up.)

Pick up 4 stitches per rib around 140 stitches in my case on one edge and rib knit for 7cm. Cast off neatly. Thread yarn through other end of most stitches and pull in tight and secure end. Add large pompom.

Chunky beanie slouchy style

Here's another beanie pattern. Its so cold outside. It's winter again already.Cheer me up, show me what you have been up to...

The yarn I have used here is called Moda vera KALD

The tension on the ball band suggests 10mm needles 8 stitches x 12 rows for a 4 inch square.


The Pattern
Using 12 mm needles.
This one fits my head size of medium at 56cm comfortably. I regularly use a larger needle size for a more drapier knit. If there is such a word? :)

Cast on 36 stitches not too tight.
Knit 4 rows of rib. 2 knit, 2 purl, etc.
Work in stocking stitch, knit one row, purl the next row etc, until work measures 20cm. This should leave enough yarn to decrease and sew together.
Knit 3, knit 2 together repeat.
Purl.Knit 2, knit 2 together repeat.
Purl.Knit 1, knit 2 together repeat.
Purl.Knit 2 together.
Pull end through and sew up seams.
Place on head and pull back down and poke point into back of beanie.
Hopefully you'll have enough yarn in one ball. I found some short balls which made for a normal size beanie.

Scarf infinity soft and nude

Gorgeous soft and a little bit fluffy.
The yarn I have used here is moda vera IONE with a little less wool in the mix, makes for a less scratchy scarf.

The tension on the ball band suggests 4mm needles and 23 stitches x 30 rows over a 4 inch square. And 315m. 50 grams. Grab some large needles I've used 8mm.

The PatternCast on 30 stitch loosely and knit knit knit...
Join at end of ball or when you have reached your desired length.Join with a twist in your scarf to drape nicely around your neck.

Black beanie

The yarn I have used here is called moda vera AMBRUNI

The tension on the ball band suggests 6.5mm needles at 14 stitches x 19 rows for a 10 inch square. 

So I have used 7.0mm circ needles.

This fits 60cm plus head snug or a loosely fit slouchy beanie for any size (pictured is 56cm - my sized head, no model in my vicinty at time of picture taking)

The Pattern:
Cast on 80 stitch loosely plus 1 to join in the round.
Rib 4 x 4 x 12 rows. ie knit 4 purl 4, etc.
Stocking stitch 8 inches from beginning, which is knit every row in the round on circular needles.
Decrease rows
Knit 8 knit 2 together, repeat
Knit row
Knit 7, knit 2 together repeat
Etc
Until 8 stitches remain
Pull end through all and fasten off.
Sew in ends and block if you want too. I generally don't.

Easter beanie

I just love Easter, and my favourite part is the chocolate of course, but this year we are slowing down on the amount of chocolate we eat...We eat it ALL year, so we decided to make something different with an easter theme.

It's so gorgeous. Easter colour inspiration from all those pinterest pics of dyeing easter eggs...I found a stash of yarn I had lying around (hidden behind the couch, where else really ;0 )

The yarn is an 8 ply acrylic and I have knitted the beanie using 5mm needles. I don't know what the tension is for this yarn, but I took it as the same for most 8plys on 4mm needles. (which is: 4mm knitting needles and 22 stitches by 30 rows for a 10cm (4 inch) square)

A gorgeous sunny day for picture taking. 

The Pattern:

Cast on 70 stitches.
Knit two purl two.

Rib for 6 rows. 

Knit row and increase 10 stitches as evenly as you can. That would be every 7 add one stitch.  80 stitches.
Purl
Knit etc. Continue stocking stitch until length measures 10cm.

Decrease in multiples of 10 on knit row. Copied next bit from my previous post Cleackheaton california beanie

Break end long enough for a seam to be sewn.

Pull end through all stitches and sew seams together in a ladder stitch and tie in the loose ends.

Secure tightly a huge pompom. We used a pompom maker and trimmed to globe shape.
This will fit a baby at size zero or about 36 cm.

Hand knitted neck warmers

Simple and beautifully warm, easy hand knitted neck warmers

The yarn purchased from Spotlight

as Pictured in Red.

Moda vera AMBRUNI

(60% Acylic, 20%Alpaca and 20% Wool)

The brown yarn was a 12 ply in a mix of acrylic/wool, we didn't keep the ball band.

The Tension (about 12 ply)

on ball band 6.5mm needles
14 st x 19 rows (10cm x 10cm sq.)
2 balls, but we used only 1/4 of second ball.

The Pattern handknited and "made up by My mum".

Using 7mm needles

Cast on 30 stitches
Knit 28 rows rib 2x2
134 rows of garter stitch
Knit 28 rows rib 2x2
Cast off.

Sew on 3 buttons as per photo and catch a few stitches underneath at the bottom of neck warmer to keep under flap in place.

Twoooo beautiful.

Wearing the point to the side (knitted with another yarn-wool/acrylic mix in 12 ply)

Infinity sparkle mesh scarf

Its so easy. Just like the arm knitting craze. But I have too big hands compared to my wrist size and I've tried enough times to keep pulling it apart. There are plenty of tutorials on the web now, Here are my girls having a go...

This yarn was the Moda Vera Hope yarn from Spotlight.

Here is my scarf and the pattern below:

I have used the Metallic Mesh yarn, normally used to knit the frilly wavy scarf, but I have used it as a normal strand, just another way to use my stash.

I've used 25mm needles. Cast on 8 stitches.
Pattern is Knit one row, Purl the next. Change colour and carry up side of work every two rows. I have knitted up two balls of yarn until ran out. This gave me a lovely lengthy scarf to wrap around twice.
